My New Addiction – House MD

Gilb has been trying to make me download House for somewhere close to 4 months now. This week I finally obliged his harrassment and downloaded (Purchased, of course!) a few episodes of Series One. This involved me putting them on to watch as I went to bed and therefore continued with me not getting to sleep till around 5:30am! Needless to say Gilb's name was only used along with a few colourful expletives the next morning! However it was all good because I have a new TV show addiction, something that hasn't happened since Heroes and LOST started!
So, what's it all about (for those who haven't already seen it) ?
Well, the Series features Hugh Laurie as a rather Cynical doctor specialising in strange medical issues such as Viruses, Infections and other wierd diseases that makes people randomly spasm, have their skin fall off and other gruesome things. I like to think of it as a cross between Becker and the Christmas specials of Casualty, bringing Becker's hatred of the world and stupid people and crossing it with possibly the worst case senario that could happen to someone on a TV doctor show.
It's not a comedy but does have a certain Wit about it, comical quotes such as
House: "Ah, my birthday. Normally I'd put on a festive hat and celebrate the fact that the Earth has circled the Sun one more time; I really didn't think it was going to make it this year, but darn it if it wasn't the little planet that could all over again."
and
Foreman: "Why are you riding me?"
House: "It's what I do...has it gotten worse lately?"
Foreman: "Yeah. Seems to me."
House: "Really. Well, that rules out the race thing. 'Cause you were just as black last week."
have me giggling and trying not to wake people up in the process! I guess they probably make more sense when you're watching the episodes, so if you didn't laugh... go go.. watch it already!
What do I recommend?
I'm only half way through the first series so far, but, there have been a number of good episodes so far. I would specifically recommend Episode 5 of Series 1 - "Damned if you do" featuring Juliette from LOST as a Nun. Has some nice "Do I believe in God" stuff in it which I always like. And also Episode 9 of Series 1 - "DNR" which has some good "Should I, Shouldn't I" things. However, at the end of the day, you should watch them all, there hasn't been an episode I haven't enjoyed yet and i'm looking forward to watching more tonight!
